Large rock-block failures occurred in steeply (>75°) landward dipping Chalk in the near-vertical limb of the Purbeck Monocline at Worbarrow Bay, Dorset in early 2001 during the wettest winter on record. Similar large failures occurred at that time in the Chalk elsewhere on the south coast, notably in near-vertical Chalk at Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight, and in the Upper Greensand at Charmouth.
