Research interests: stratigraphy, geological mapping and geological processes and their application to regional and international correlation, and to their practical application to site investigation, landslides, coastal erosion, alternative hydrocarbon and geothermal energy resources, and the potential effects of global warming. Extensive experience of all aspects of the geology of Mesozoic, Tertiary and Quaternary successions in eastern and southern England including acting as geological advisor to the successful East Devon-Dorset Coast World Heritage Site nomination. This last, popularly known as the Jurassic Coast WHS, contains some of the best exposures of the Triassic and Cretaceous in Europe.
Sea stacks in Triassic Otter Sandstone, Ladram Bay, Devon.
Triassic-Jurassic boundary beds, Charton Bay, Lyme Regis, Dorset.
Jurassic Kimmeridge Clay cliffs viewed from Houns-tout, Dorset.
Triassic mudstones faulted against Cretaceous sandstones, White Cliff, Seaton, Devon.
Cliffs in Upper Cretaceous Chalk, Beer, Devon.
Clay-with-flints resting on Chalk, Salcombe Regis, Devon.
Mer de Glace, Chamonix, France, 1832.
Mer de Glace, 2008. Global-warming? Perhaps, perhaps not.
