GEOFEST – Dorchester

Dorset Geologists Association Group (DGAG) is hosting a GEOFEST on the Saturday 26 October 2024.
Theme: A festival celebrating Geoscience: Fossils, Minerals and Earth Science. A DGAG inaugural event that will be a small part of Octobers global Earth Science week organized by The Geological Society and American Geoscience Institute.
– Selected DGAG members and some invited guests will exhibit their collections and share their Earth Science knowledge.
– Anyone is welcome to come and see what is on show. If there are any Geoscience questions or puzzling rocks/fossils that people want advice on, these would be welcome also.
Time: The GEOFEST will start at 10.00 am; finish 4.00 pm
Entry Cost: Free
Booking: There is no need to book.
Note: Food or drink is not being supplied at the venue, but there are plenty of nearby cafés etc.
Venue: The main Hall at the United Church, 49/51 Charles Street, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1EE (postal address and rear entrance to church buildings). South Street, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1BY (front entrance to church 29 South St, Dorchester DT1 1BY)
Entrance can be from either of 2 entrances:
– Perhaps easiest for pedestrians will be from the alleyway entrance on the South street pedestrian zone where we will hopefully have a colourful advertising board pointing the way to the GEOFEST.

– Otherwise entrance from Charles Street opposite to the Dorchester Library and car park

Winter Workshop

Dorset Geologist’s Association Group (DGAG) will host the annual Winter Workshop on the Saturday 09 December 2023.

Theme: Pre-Christmas get together around displays and participate in a few nibbles and buffet food!
– Anyone is welcome to exhibit/present material on tables provided and share their geology and knowledge
– Anyone is welcome to bring any fossil or rock puzzles they want advice on

Time: Work shop will start at 10.00 am; finish approximately 4.00 pm

Entry Cost: £4 collected on room entry (Free if you have material to show or food to bring)

Booking: Please let me know as soon as you can if you;
– Would like to attend and if you want to eat or not
– Want to bring along some food to share and what sort
– Would like a table for your material/presentation/rocks etc

Holiday Rocks Workshop with Talks

Dorset Geologist’s Association Group (DGAG) will host the annual Holiday Rocks Talks & Workshop on the Saturday 21 October 2023.

Theme: Post summer holiday (or indeed from other occasions!) talks of places visited and puzzling over rocks or fossils found. Anyone is welcome to share tales of their holiday rocks/fossils or indeed bring any! If you would like to speak a few words about the rocks/fossils and context even better, any presentation format is fine even paper, models etc! We have tables and a projector and facility to connect to laptops and a screen if required.

Time: start at 2.00 pm; finish approximately 4.00 pm
