Lower Jurassic geology and fossils
We shall look at the Lias west of Lyme Regis with the Cretaceous beds lying unconformably on top. There is a wealth of geology here and we shall still be able to visit the "ammonite graveyard” and, with extra daylight hours, there will be plenty of opportunity to collect fossils The total distance of the excursion is about 3 miles on varying beach material. Crack Lane Quarry conservation
An opportunity to study a geologically and historically important site. In the morning we shall carry out conservation work on this exposure of Purbeck Limestone of the Lower Cretaceous. This is a shelly limestone (Broken Shell Limestone or Burr) used for building and the famous Purbeck Marble was extracted. Wessex OUGS Field Workshop on Graphical Logging, Upwey
An opportunity to practise geological field skills with an experienced OU geologist, Dr Fiona Hyden. This workshop aims to give members a basic grounding and some practical experience in graphic logging techniques using an exposure of early Cretaceous, Purbeck strata rocks near Weymouth. Clatworthy Reservoir, Brendon Hills, West Somerset
Local Geology Site (LGS) Conservation. This Field Trip (Day) is a continuation of the clearance work started at this Local Geology Site last Summer. We hope to reveal more of the geological structure of the site. This is a Local Geology Site consisting of three locations by Clatworthy Reservoir.
